Every brand has an origin story. Some start in glass-walled boardrooms with investors and fancy coffee. Maayu? Ours began at home—with a mother, her daughter, and a question that refused to be ignored.
Where It All Began
Hi, I’m Sonal, founder of Maayu. My journey into sustainable fashion wasn’t planned—it was personal. My daughter began facing reproductive issues, and as I spoke to a doctor, I realized this wasn’t rare. Girls her age were struggling with hormonal imbalances, PCOD, and PCOS at alarming rates—1 in 3 girls were facing these challenges & was sure it was affecting the boys in some way as well.
The numbers were shocking, but what shook me more was the thought: Why is this becoming normal?
Having worked closely in the sustainable fashion industry, I was already aware of how environmental toxicity impacts the planet. But suddenly, it all connected—if toxins harm the earth’s ability to reproduce, they also harm our own. Human and environmental suffering mirror each other. If toxicity is on the human body, it’s on the planet too.
From Personal Pain to Purpose
That realization changed everything for me. I could have simply looked for safer clothing options for my daughter, but I knew this was bigger than us. Underwear—something so intimate, something that sits closest to our skin all day—was often made with synthetic fibers, plastics, and toxic dyes.
So instead of settling, I decided to create something better: underwear that’s safe, soft, and toxin-free—for both people and the planet.

For me, Maayu isn’t just a brand. It’s about giving my kids, and every person out there, the confidence that what touches their skin every day is safe. It’s about proving that the comfort of our bodies should never come at the cost of our health or the planet’s health.
This is deeply personal. It’s my way of saying: we deserve better. Better fabrics, better choices, better care—for ourselves and for the Earth.
