Because we are spandex-free! Undergarments are usually blended with spandex/elastane for the stretch & elasticity. Although it is called a highlight, spandex as a material is very harmful for our intimate health & the environment.That’s why we have refrained from using any spandex and kept our products healthy, breathable & pure organic cotton. We develop fabrics in a way where there can be maximum natural stretchability without using spandex/elastane.

We wish to be 100% synthetic-free and are researching natural elastics. However, due to lack of availability currently, we have used contact-free inner elastic in the waist and leg opening that does not touch the body. Simultaneously, we are working on an elastic-free product range. Do look out for it!

Synthetic bleach & dyes are carcinogenic & toxic. Maayu products are specifically designed for wellbeing, thus the toxic-dye free underwear that uses minimal resources. Maayu products are unbleached & undyed eliminating the carcinogenic dyes to be in contact with our intimates. We kept cotton in its purest form possible keeping it healthiest for both people and the planet.

Ideally we recommend hand wash with gentle detergents . This is the best option environmentally too for all washing. However, gentle cycle machine wash with mild, natural detergents is fine too ( please wash on full load, please save water). Avoid harsh detergents as they are harmful for our health as well as our planet. Air dry/hang dry is the best way to dry all our clothes. This saves energy, and will also ensure the longest life possible for your clothes. Not so fun fact : Consumers are huge contributors of toxins due to the washing detergents used

The best thing to do is cut and remove the elastic from the waist & leg opening and compost the rest of the fabric. The elastic scraps can be reused  as tie ups or as a last resort discarded with your dry waste.

Remove & reuse the elastic and labels from the waist and compost the rest of the fabric.
