Your intimate skin is your most absorbent skin.
Most of us choose underwear by colour, by fit, by price. Nobody told us to read the materials and ingredients label.
The skin in intimate areas has no protective barrier. What touches it enters your body. Synthetic dyes, spandex, chemical bleach — all three pressed directly against your most sensitive skin for 12 or more hours every day.
Spandex is a plastic. Azo dyes are endocrine disruptors. Bleach residue does not wash out.
This is worth knowing. And now that you do, we can help you make the switch.
Benefits of Switching to Maayu Underwear
For Your Body
100% organic cotton breathes naturally against your most sensitive skin. It regulates heat and moisture, maintaining the bacterial balance your body needs. Gentle on reactive and sensitive skin. Safe for women managing PCOD, hormonal imbalance, and recurring infections. Soft, light, and comfortable.
For the Planet
Each pair saves 1,660 litres of water and 189 grams of CO₂. No microplastics released with every wash. No synthetic chemicals entering the water system. Where we use colour, it comes only from natural plant dyes. Packaged in reused and compostable materials. We try and make as close to zero waste as possible.
For The People Behind It
Every pair is made at a fair trade certified factory. Where we use colour, it comes only from natural plant dyes. We are a female founded and run business. Built from a small village in Goa, we employ local women, we compost, plants trees, and believes a business should leave things better than it found them.
Consider changing the undergarments your whole family wears
For the Little Ones in Your Life
Children's skin is thinner and more absorbent than adult skin. Maayu makes children's undergarments with the same care — soft, breathable organic cotton, no spandex, no synthetic dyes, nothing their bodies have to work around.
For the Men in Your Life
Our men's collection is one of our most loved. Once men make the switch, they rarely go back.
If you are making the switch for yourself, make it for them too.
FAQs
-
Most underwear sits against your most sensitive skin for 12 hours a day. Regular underwear is made with spandex, synthetic dyes, and chemical bleach and the skin in intimate areas absorbs chemicals faster than almost anywhere else on the body. Research links these chemicals to skin irritation, recurring infections, and hormonal disruption over time. 100% organic cotton has none of these. It breathes, it's chemical-free, and it doesn't work against your body.
-
It means the cotton is grown without synthetic pesticides, fertilisers, or GMO seeds. But that is just the farm.
Once the cotton leaves the field, most brands hand it to conventional textile processing. It gets bleached white. It gets dyed with synthetic chemicals. It gets blended with spandex. By the time it becomes underwear, the organic origin is almost irrelevant but the label still says organic. Most customers never know to ask what happened in between.
Certifications for organic fabric still permits the use of synthetic dyes and chemical processing after harvesting. A garment can carry that label and still be bleached and dyed with chemicals that make direct contact with your skin.
At Maayu we go further. Our fabric is unbleached. It stays the colour it naturally grows. Where we use colour, it comes only from plants: indigo, madder root, harda and pomegranate peels. No synthetic dyes. No bleach. Nothing synthetic touches the fabric from the field to the finished pair.
A certification tells you where the cotton started. We're telling you everything that didn't happen to it after.

Most underwear stretches because of spandex — a synthetic plastic blended into the fabric. Spandex traps heat, disrupts the skin's natural environment, and isn't something you want pressed against your most sensitive skin all day.
Maayu uses 100% organic cotton with a natural four-way stretch. It moves with your body and shapes to you over time — without a single synthetic fibre. It will not feel like elastane. It was never meant to.
If you are trying Maayu for the first time, we recommend starting with a single pair before committing to a pack. Most women don't go back once they have made the switch to Maayu underwear. -
Maayu doesn't treat or cure anything and we'll never claim it does. What we do know:synthetic fabric traps heat and moisture, which is exactly the environment that encourages bacterial and fungal overgrowth. Synthetic dyes and chemicals in intimate areas can also act as hormone disruptors, which is particularly relevant for women managing PCOD. Switching to chemical-free cotton removes one source of daily chemical exposure and irritation. Gynaecologists have recommended this fabric switch for decades and it's not a new idea.
